Prism Community Center

South Dakota’s only dedicated center for the LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit community is now open.

The Transformation Project’s new Prism Community Center, a 3,400 square-foot community space on the north end of Sioux Falls, combines the nonprofit’s services into one functional space for the first time since Executive Director Susan Williams started the Project more than four years ago.

In this space, visitors are greeted by a wall of flags representing nearly every gender, sexual orientation and sexuality; portraits of Marsha P. Johnson, a transgender activist and prominent figure in the Stonewall Uprising of 1969; Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California and an activist and politician who dedicated his life to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights; and a large progress flag made of felt pieces.

The space is led by, created by and funded by the community, with games donated from Game Chest, art from local artists, and several features made possible by grant funding and support, including donated computers, laptops, a printer and staff cell phones from Power On, which supports centers like Prism.

Hours vary, for more information call 605-610-8579.
